Fountainview:
Established on a tradition of care

The Fountainview Center for Alzheimer’s Disease was established in 1995 by William (Billy) M. Small, Jr. in the tradition established by his father, William Small, Sr., who opened the original Fountainview nursing home (called Fountainview Convalescent Center) in the 1960s.

Billy’s goal was to build upon his father’s foundation of kindness, respect and dignity. “My father lost his mother when he was a teenager, and he endeavored to honor her by creating a nursing home that would embody her finest qualities, which included a tremendously compassionate and caring nature,” says Billy.

For more than three decades, the original Fountainview provided high quality care for Atlanta’s seniors in a “family-like” environment.

“Residents thought of it as home,” says Billy. “The strong presence of family and genuine caring was the lifeblood of the original facility’s success and continues throughout The Fountainview Center today.”

Billy re-envisioned and renamed the original center in 1995 after seeing the increasing prevalence of Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementia disorders. He created a new concept in care, with the mission of becoming the preeminent provider of care for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders in metro Atlanta.
